Growth – Creative Mornings Cardiff Talk: How creating ideas at the ‘edge’ of architecture has helped us grow

On Friday 28th November 2025, Situated Studio’s Amanda Spence and Rhian Thomas of Analog Architecture were invited to give the monthly talk at Creative Mornings Cardiff, exploring the theme of Growth.

As regular collaborators, this was an opportunity for Rhian and me to share our interwoven journeys in practice, and how our experience of creating and delivering ideas at the ‘edge’ of architecture – where it overlaps with art, landscape and research – have helped us grow personally and professionally.

We showed how our work is always underpinned by a critical response to site and brief; and how we approach projects with care for the impact they make on the environment and communities in which they exist; striving to create places which are beautiful, ethical, sustainable and capture the spirit of place.  We shared examples of work shaped by themes of community growing, connecting with nature, imaginative play, social connection and well-being.

From how our early childhood experiences of exploring landscapes, gardening and connecting with nature have influenced our approach; our education and learning through travel; to our times working together at the Design Research Unit Wales and setting up our own practice - ALT-Architecture - we reflected on the theme of growth in our careers and lives.

You can watch the recording of the talk back on Creative Mornings Cardiff website here.

Creative Mornings is the world’s largest face-to-face creative community, with local Chapters hosting events in over 200 cities around the world on Friday mornings each month.  The Chapters ‘not only celebrate their local creative talent, but also create an open space to connect with other big-hearted individuals’.

Thank you to the lovely Cardiff-based grass roots venue The Canopi for hosting the event.
